The Professor Feliks Zalewski Underground Tourist Route in Jarosław is one of the oldest underground tourist routes in Poland. A guided tour will reveal many interesting facts about the city's history.
Jarosław-style Townhouse
The tour of the Underground Tourist Route in Jarosław starts 'on the ground', exploring a typical 'Jarosław-style' townhouse. This building has a very specific structure, which allowed it to serve not only as a residential and commercial space for the owners, but also as a hotel and warehouse for visiting merchants during fairs.
Wide gates allowed easy entry for carts full of goods, which could be unpacked in the bright, roofed hallway. Merchants staying in the Jarosław townhouse had access not only to rooms and warehouses, but also a large hall for meetings and various transactions.
What will we see on the Underground Tourist Route in Jarosław?
After getting acquainted with the layout of the rooms in the townhouse, we descend to its multi-storey cellars. Unlike the highly developed and exhibit-filled interiors of the Underground Passage, here we have the opportunity to see the old cellars in their almost unchanged, original form.
A labyrinth of corridors takes us through several levels of chambers and underground rooms. From these raw and seemingly 'boring' interiors, the guide can draw out a multitude of stories and draw the visitors' attention to many interesting details: e.g. the ventilation system of the cellars, differences in the construction of vaults, slopes facilitating the transport of barrels, metal hinges enabling the closing and protection of valuable goods.
