The tourist trail through the undergrounds of the Main Market Square (a branch of the Krakow Museum) presents medieval Krakow using 21st-century means of communication.

Here you can see, among others, the remains of a 12th-century settlement destroyed during the Tatar invasion of Krakow, the historic cobblestones of Krakow's Market Square, a water supply device used to deliver water to the city from the nearby Rudawa river, everyday objects found in the Market by archaeologists, a reconstruction of a medieval cemetery, and a model of Krakow's city centre surrounded by walls and a moat.

Underground Market - attractions for children and more!

The youngest will probably be interested in the reconstructions of a goldsmith's and blacksmith's workshops. The museum is a good place to introduce children to the work of other craftsmen - in one of the corridors on touch screens, we can find short descriptions of various medieval professions (including a shoemaker, locksmith) illustrated with excavations.

There is also an educational room for children: you can watch a performance titled 'The Legend of Krakow', telling about the beginnings of Krakow, King Krak and the Wawel dragon (approx. 10 min.). For more sensitive viewers, it may be too dark (atmospheric music, semi-darkness, a monster-dragon emerging from the background).

In the educational room, children will also find wooden toys (maze, puzzles) and touch screens with educational games (e.g. you can choose the tools needed by medieval craftsmen, dress a princess or a knight, etc.).
