"Wujek" Mine

The Center is located in the former "Wujek" mine, where a miners' strike was brutally suppressed. The building itself has a rich history - it was a clothing warehouse for the mine. Today, after expansion, the new permanent exhibition covers over 1100 square meters and the exhibits are spread over three levels. This provides enough space to display all the valuable items collected by the Center.

Exhibition

The exhibits are very interactive, designed with young people in mind. Families with children will have plenty of opportunities for active participation. Many elements are there for you to discover on your own, making learning fun and engaging. You can touch and examine replicas of artifacts or eavesdrop on people standing in line by placing a cup against the wall. All this makes you feel as if you've stepped back in time and are experiencing the authenticity of those times.

We liked that in each room, you can activate an audio guide that briefly introduces you to the period and theme of that particular exhibit.

One of the most memorable exhibits is the T-55 tank, similar to the ones used during the suppression of the strike at the "Wujek" mine on December 16, 1981. The Ministry of National Defense provided this tank, and soldiers from the Tank Battalion in Czarne restored it to its pre-1981 appearance. This unique attraction gives us the opportunity to see a direct witness of those dramatic events.

However, the tank is just one of many interesting exhibits you can see at the center. In the room with televisions, you can listen to authentic announcements from the martial law era, which convey the atmosphere of those days. Models of the mine allow us to trace the course of the strike suppression and better understand the dramatic events that took place at the "Wujek" site. It's a real history lesson for all visitors.
