The Jagiellonian University Botanical Garden is the oldest botanical garden in Poland, established almost 250 years ago in the former gardens of the Czartoryski family. It currently covers nearly 10 hectares. It's a green oasis of peace, just a few minutes' walk from the crowded and bustling Krakow Market Square.
The Botanical Garden in Krakow is worth visiting in any season! There is always something blooming, changing colors, or amazing visitors.

What can we see in the Jagiellonian University Botanical Garden?
Of course, plants: flowers and trees - but what kinds? The rich collections and cultivations include the most exotic ones from different parts of the world, various climate zones, different regions of Poland, as well as local and traditional plants grown in our home gardens.
You will find exotic plants mainly in three greenhouses:
Victoria Greenhouse (right at the entrance) - here you will find, among others, the famous large palm tree:

...and next to it, citrus trees:

Jubilee Greenhouse is located deeper in the garden, behind the arboretum (tree garden). Here you will see carnivorous, aquatic, and tropical plants - including, for example, cocoa and coffee plants.

Holenderka Greenhouse is mainly an orchidarium. You will also see an interesting plant here - the staghorn fern:

Separate areas in the garden are dedicated to useful and medicinal plants, rose beds, daylilies, magnolias, rhododendrons, a traditional Ma艂opolska garden, an alpine garden with mountain plants, and the 'tree garden,' which is an almost 200-year-old arboretum.

The Jagiellonian University Botanical Garden also features a large arboretum where you can learn about native and exotic tree species:

All plants in the garden are labeled, and there are also several large educational boards throughout the garden.
There are also tactile signs for the visually impaired - thanks to them, you can 'touch a cactus,' for example.

Botanical Garden - Attractions
The main attraction is the opportunity to walk among the greenery. You can choose sunny areas with low plants or the shaded arboretum. Benches are available everywhere - some quieter, some busier (the busiest area is near the caf茅 and fountain, the quietest in the arboretum).
Unfortunately, you can't run and 'trample' everywhere, touch everything, or pick anything - you need to ensure children behave appropriately. There is more freedom in the arboretum - trees are more tolerant than delicate flowers.
Usually, the biggest attraction for children is 'wandering' through the garden paths, discovering shortcuts and mysterious corners:

Near the orchidarium (Holenderka Greenhouse), you will find extraordinary specimens of 'fossil wood.' Can you believe that this oak tree pulled from the Vistula River is about 2200 years old!

It's worth visiting the small Jagiellonian University Botanical Garden Museum, located in a historic building near the Victoria Greenhouse:

The small museum exhibition is housed in several rooms on the ground floor (entrance via stairs, ticket included in the garden admission). Here you will see extraordinary specimens and preparations collected by naturalists, including the world's largest seed:

...but also, for example, the vertebrae of Arctic whales:
