Royal Baths Park
The Royal Baths Park is the summer residence of King Stanisław August. It consists of a vast palace-park area and a complex of several historic gardens. The Royal Baths Park is a park-museum and there is no typical playground for children. However, the area of the Baths will certainly appeal to kids - there is plenty of space for free activity, ducks, squirrels.
Royal Baths Park - how to get there and how to visit?
The closest to the Palace on the Water - the main part of the baths are the Royal Baths tram stops and the Agricola bus stop. And it is from this southern part of the park that I suggest families with children start their visit. We can then head towards Ujazdowski Park with the most interesting playground in Warsaw!
Royal Baths Park - what to see?
The park area is vast and it is difficult, especially with children, to see it all. The main places are the Palace on the Water, the Amphitheatre, the Old Orangery - the rest depends on our preferences.
Palace on the Water
The Palace on the Water located in the central part of the park is the summer residence of King Stanisław August Poniatowski. In the summer, famous Thursday dinners were held here, where the king invited famous painters, architects, sculptors. Today's Royal Baths, before they were taken over by King Stanisław August, served as a forest game reserve, where hunts were organized.
Amphitheatre
Colorful peacocks walk majestically across the amphitheater stage. The stage is separated from the audience by a sheet of water, which adds magic and charm to the place.
Royal Gardens
This is the oldest part of the gardens located near the Palace on the Water and the Amphitheatre, established on the site of a former game reserve. The history of the place dates back to 1262.
Old Orangery
Also known as the Old Orangery - it was designed by a royal architect of Italian origin. It was used to store orange trees, which in summer adorned the park alleys in the Baths. Here we can see the Royal Theatre - one of the few preserved court theatres in Europe and the Royal Sculpture Gallery with a collection of marble statues and plaster casts of ancient works.
Temple of Sibyl
It is modeled on ancient Greek buildings. The entrances are guarded by two fierce lions. On the white, stone cone located near the temple are Greek sentences attributed to seven Greek sages. These sentences formed the ethical code of ancient Greece.
Belvedere
"Bel vedere" in Italian means “beautiful view”. Architecturally, it is a garden building located on a hill, from which there is a view of the garden composition. Belvedere is the former residence of the President of the Republic of Poland, it is not open to visitors.
Egyptian Temple, Figarnia
The Egyptian Temple served as a fig ripening place - figarnia. It is guarded by lions spouting water from their mouths. The roof of the building is also a bridge connecting the banks of the pond. Hence another name for the pavilion - Egyptian Bridge. On the roof, the bridge over the Temple, there is a high obelisk covered with sheet metal and hieroglyphs.
Monument of Fryderyk Chopin
This is the most famous monument in Poland. In the summer, piano concerts are held here.
Royal Baths - we visit with nuts
Visiting the Baths with a child will most likely take us all day, or at least a significant part of it. Ponds with ducks, fountains, shade of trees. When going to the Baths, it is worth having a small snack and something to drink with you - the park area is very large and it may be a problem to find food facilities. It's also worth putting a few nuts in your pocket - red squirrels run around the park, who are happy to eat nutty treats from our hands!
Botanical Garden
Small, located near the Baths, it is one of the oldest and also one of the smallest botanical gardens in Poland. However, interestingly, special plant collections are created in the Garden, e.g. a collection of rare, dying and endangered plants in Poland, thanks to which some species have been saved from total oblivion. In the greenhouses we can see gigantic cacti, palms, fig trees, oranges, and even vanilla sticks, coffee bushes, avocado and carnivorous plants - before buying a ticket, however, it is worth checking whether the greenhouses are open.
Ujazdowski Park
