The Legend of Saint Kinga's Ring - Wieliczka and Bochnia Salt Mines

Once upon a time, Prince Boles艂aw the Shy, who ruled in Wawel, asked for the hand of the Hungarian princess, Kinga, and gave her a beautiful engagement ring.

She did not want to receive gold or precious stones as a dowry, she only asked her father for salt, which she wanted to give to her future subjects.

In order to fulfill his daughter's request, her father gave her a salt mine in the Maramure葯 region (now Romania).

However, how could she transport the entire mine to Poland? - the princess wondered, and after a while, she threw her engagement ring into one of the mine shafts.

Soon, Kinga set off for Poland, to the court of Boles艂aw. While showing the princess around the lands of the Polish duchy, a salt deposit was discovered in a small village near Krakow, from which Kinga's engagement ring fell out.

The ring that Kinga threw into the mine in Maramure葯 brought precious salt to the Polish lands. Since then, the salt mines in Wieliczka and Bochnia have been famous for their rich salt deposits.
