Pannieńskie Skały (Maiden's Rocks)

During one of the Tatar attacks on Kraków, the Tatars attacked the Norbertine Sisters' Monastery, located on the Vistula River, at the mouth of the Rudawa River. The siege lasted for a very long time, and the sisters, known as the 'Pannas of Zwierzyniec,' had nothing to eat. They were also afraid that the Tatars would soon capture the monastery, so they escaped to the nearby forest - Wolski Forest - through underground corridors. The Tatars chased the nuns, but suddenly they turned into rocks, making it impossible for their enemies to harm them. Today, in Wolski Forest, we can see the so-called 'Pannieńskie Skały' - the petrified Norbertine sisters.
