Legend of the Tower of Seven Coats in Szczecin

The Maiden's Tower, also known as the Tower of Seven Coats, is one of the symbols of Szczecin. It is located at the foot of the Pomeranian Dukes' Castle and is a remnant of the city's medieval defensive walls.
The medieval walls of Szczecin were about 2.5 kilometers long. They had 4 main gates: Mill, Holy Spirit, Pasaw and Maiden. In addition to the gates, the fortifications had 7 round towers, 14 square towers, 1 hexagonal tower and 15 half towers, i.e., open towers. On the Oder side, there were several water gates. A moat with a depth of 30-35 cubits ran around the walls.
Where did the name Tower of Seven Coats come from?
According to legend, one of the Pomeranian dukes of the Gryfit family ordered seven coats made of very chic and expensive material from a tailor. The tailor's wife liked the material so much that she persuaded her husband to make a dress for her from the remaining scraps of material.
The duke and the entire court were delighted with the coats. They were beautiful. However, the duke's joy did not last long. Soon someone told him that he had seen the tailor's wife walking around the city in a dress made of the same material.
As a punishment, the dishonest craftsman was locked in the castle tower, which has since been known by the aforementioned name.
