Identifying Spring Flowers: A Guide with Coloring Pages for Kids
As the snow melts and days get longer and warmer, nature wakes up. One of the most beautiful signs of spring are flowers that push through the still-frozen ground, bringing color, scent, and hope. Learn about—and color—the most popular spring flowers that brighten parks and forests in Poland. Visiting tip: look for them from February to May in city parks, gardens, and forest paths. Please do not pick wild flowers, especially in national parks; many species are protected.

Snowdrops – the first sign of spring
Snowdrops are among the first flowers to appear after winter. Their delicate white bells often break through the snow, telling us that spring is starting. They symbolize hope, renewal, and innocence. In Poland they bloom from February to early April, sometimes while snow still lies on the ground. Please admire them without picking.
Snowdrop flowers are white, bell-shaped, nodding, and fragrant. The bloom has three larger outer petals and three smaller inner ones. A clear green spot sits just below the outer petals.

Crocuses – a purple carpet
Crocuses are another early sign of spring. They make colorful carpets in shades of purple, yellow, white, and blue. You can often see them in parks and lawns, brightening open spaces. Mountain meadows are famous for their purple crocus carpets—especially in the Tatra Mountains (for example, the Chochołowska Valley near Zakopane). Sheep keep the grass short and help the crocuses spread, so the flowers stand out clearly.

Wood anemone
A delicate white flower often found in leafy forests and on meadows. It forms beautiful carpets in early spring. Its light petals move with the smallest breeze, giving it a graceful look.
It has characteristic six 'petals' up to 3 cm wide, with a yellow center. In Poland you can see it mainly in April in many lowland forests.

Primrose
One of the first flowers to appear after winter. It has yellow flowers growing low above the ground. It often grows in clumps, decorating meadows and gardens with its cheerful color and symbolizing new life. In Poland it usually blooms from March to April.

Lily of the valley
Known for its small, white, bell-shaped flowers and strong, sweet scent. From the lily family, it has dark green leaves, grows up to 20 cm, and blooms richly in May. It prefers shady forest areas. Lily of the valley symbolizes purity, delicacy, and happiness—often used in wedding bouquets. Note: all parts are poisonous—do not eat.
